Girl Scouts of Greater Chicago and Northwest Indiana 2020 Annual Report
Girl Scouts takes the potential of girls, combines it with robust skill-building, and adds caring adult mentors and female role models to whom girls can look for support. The inclusive, all-girl environment of Girl Scouts proved vital in 2020, offering a safe space where girls can try new things, develop a range of skills, take on leadership roles, and just be themselves.
The 63,770 girls and adults of GCNWI tapped into an uplifting community during a time of isolation and upended routines. Both individually and with their peers, Girl Scouts continued to pursue their passions, mitigating learning loss as school formats evolved. Together, they walked boldly toward sisterhood, justice, and fairness.
Sarah D., Girl Scout Ambassador
“The thing that I value the most about my experience in Girl Scouts is seeing how my actions affect others. I love helping people, which is a reason that I continue doing Girl Scouts and for me, that is one of the experiences that I really value because helping others is an important part of one’s character.
“I wish that others knew about the time and effort that is put into Girl Scouting and the activities and service projects that we do. I have been able to connect with people on a variety of levels and share my experiences with them to help benefit those in need and to also express and show how I care for others. I feel like many people just recognize Girl Scouts as being just about badges but for me, it’s also about growing as a person and helping others.”
